(Parent) The site is beautiful. Thanks for doing this for those of us that were left behind! I look forward to seeing what the kids post. Thanks again.

(PP Teacher/Staff) Thank you for creating and updating the website. It's really fun to follow along with the kids on their trip.

(PP Teacher/Staff) I just looked at Monday's journal and the pix are wonderful. The turbines are huge. What fun.Thanks.

(PP Student) Hi, I heard about this site from my teacher Mr. Parsons. I think it's cool because we get to know what it is like in South Dakota and what students think.

(Parent) This is great to peek into what is all going on with the science class trip. As of right now, I can only pick up on Mon. events with info. but it was good to see the pictures and read the info. Keep up the website...we are all enjoying it. Say "Hi" from Mom and hope everyone is staying dry and healthy.

(Parent) I love to be able to read about what is going on during your travel day. The pictures are wonderful.

(Family member) This is great! It provides everyone a chance to enjoy the trip the kids are on.

(PP Teacher/Staff) Excellent!  What fun it is to see your journey unfold. I love that area. I sure wish I was with you! Guess I am an avid "digger, rock-lover" at heart.

(PP Friend) I love reading the daily journals! They are very descriptive and informative. Great writing! The pictures are absolutely fascinating. How far was the "slide" into the lake off the rock?  Looked like lots of fun and so much to see. Is anybody excited about coming home tomorrow?

(Parent) Great site. We really liked seeing the picture of our son. Please pass along a "HI" to him if you can.

(Parent) It has been great to track as evidently my family's cell phone is either dead or not in service out there. What a trip in a life time for these kids. Hats off to the Chaperones for taking this on. To Marlene and Peter and the students for doing this.

(Family member) This is a great idea!!  I've enjoyed being able to track the activities of the group and see what they are doing and learning about on their trip. What an outstanding way to keep parents, family and schools informed about the trip! The trip, in itself, is a great opportunity for students to see and experience various geological sites. In addition, it's important that the "general public" can see what our schools are doing and the value of activities such as this to the students. At some point it would be nice to have a group photo posted to the site of everyone involved. Thanks :)

(Family member) I love the idea of cooperating with the U of M on this project. It would be fun to be able to have the students post a short paragraph or two about what they are experiencing and learning on a day to day basis.

(Family member) I enjoyed the pictures and the information they wrote about each picture and what they have seen and learned.

(Parent) I have really enjoyed this website. I have visited it several times each day. It looks like the kids are having a great time. Thank you for your efforts to bring us these updates.

(Family member) What a great opportunity for the kids to be able to go on a trip like this and also keep the parents informed by this web site. I thought they did a great job.

(UMM Student - who went along on the trip) THIS SITE LOOKS FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had such a grrrrrrrrrrreat time with you all!!! Have fun now that you are back in school!  All my love and best wishes!!!!!  HUGS AND HIGH FIVES!!

(PP student - who went along on the trip) Hi! I am the one who was in charge of sending you the pictures and the story of the day. I am also the photographer of the trip I think you did an awesome job at putting up all the pictures and the story. The web site is real cool, you did a good job.

In my 30 plus years in education I have seen many innovations and trends come and go. In the last 5-10 years collaboration has become a buzz word and trend. I remember 5 or 6 years ago beginning a collaboration with UMM and wondering where it could ever lead us. Were we collaborating just because it seemed to be the thing to do?

When the South Dakota trip came up for the first time I realized that this was going to be true collaboration!  Two enlightened educators came together to blaze a new trail in K-16 collaboration. The magic of the college students and the college professor heading into a geologic wonderland with our eighth graders and our super dedicated science teacher has cast a spell of educational joy throughout my old bones!

A great deal of this trip was about generosity and giving. It gave our town the opportunity to see just how much dreams are what the future can be made of. It tore down the walls of our schools and made us all believe that real learning can occur when we open our minds and step off our beaten pathways. Our school district now has boundaries that reach out to western South Dakota and we now have new friends and colleagues at UMM.

Peter and Marlene have forged a professional friendship and alliance that has changed our lives and our expectations. As I deal with the sorrow that comes at the close of such an endeavor, I realize that there is more joy and real learning ahead.  We have merely scratched the surface of the possibilities that lie ahead.

My job is to encourage and empower the great minds like Peter's and Marlene's and to help overcome the roadblocks they may encounter along the way. Selfishly, I must admit that working with such individuals has made my career and life more meaningful.

My deepest thanks to Peter, Marlene, the UMM students, and all of those parents and partners that dreamed along with us and spent last week mentally rolling through South Dakota. (An adventure made more vivid thanks to Pam Gades, who kept us updated via the website.)

Rather than say "Goodbye", I must say "What next?" to all of our new friends.

Many thanks to you Pam! I am very impressed with the site you created it was both user friendly and informative. I heard many positive comments and all week there was a buzz in town -"Have you checked the site?"

Marlene and Peter, Thank you! The boys have had nothing but good things to say about the trip. They had a great time and would love to go back.I find it interesting that the time they spent was doing the kinds of things we took for granted when we were young. Sleeping in tents, open fires, swimming (not in a pool), and just playing outside. We do live in a different world and am so thankful to you for giving them this experience.

Pam -- Please accept my personal and professional thanks and deepest sense of gratitude for putting together and maintaining a truly awesome Web site; your efforts truly captured the spirit of our recently-completed trip through southwestern Minnesota and South Dakota. THANKS, with best regards from each and all of us -- Marlene, Peter, and all the 8th grade students; the UMM student assistants; the many Parkers Prairie chaperones, parents, and friends whose overwhelmingly generous support helped make the trip possible; and all of our many colleagues and friends at Parkers Prairie High School.

Awesome! The ending comments, especially "I get it out here. I don't get it in the classroom, but I get it out here" made me cry. The web site it so wonderful! I felt like I was there. Again...breathtaking! What would the world do if there were not teachers like you and students like yours. Thank you for posting this for the public. I am honored to have come across this site.

The website needs no work! And I am jealous that you guys had such a great experience! Looking at the pictures and reading the entries really made me want to do something like that. I am not a huge nature person, but the things you saw made memories that are irreplacable. You guys should all be proud of yourselves!

I thought the website was put together very nicely. I really enjoyed reading it and learning about the students experiences!!!!

I think this is an amazing site. Kudos to all involved. It really takes education to another level and if people like you can continue to open up more doors of opportunity then I think I can speak on behalf of all education majors when I say thank you!!

I just want to say that that site is amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to it, but it surely exceeded my expectations. I applaud what you have been able to do. I just hope that once I have my own science or social studies classroom that I am able to touch my students as much as you have clearly touched yours.
